According to the Trump Administration’s executive orders to ban TikTok and WeChat, the apps are set to be banned on Sunday. Here’s what we know…
TikTok Downloads BANNED on Sunday
Those who already have the apps will be able to continue using them, and TikTok employees will still be able to receive salaries and benefits. The restrictions do, however, mean that updated versions cannot be downloaded moving forward. In addition, the app will disappear from the App Store.
“The only real change as of Sunday night will be [TikTok users] won’t have access to improved apps, updated apps, upgraded apps or maintenance,” says Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross
Apparently, the administration expects some users to continue to find ways to keep using the apps, and it doesn’t intend to prosecute anyone for it. The more realistic aim is to decrease use of the apps over time.
TikTok has until Nov. 12 before further limitations kick in. Until then, enjoy the app while you can.
